Temptation

A couple of weeks ago I had been struggling with something I usually overcome. But Satan knows what areas we are the weakest, so he hits us there the hardest in hopes that we fall. I kept crying out to God to help me overcome this temptation but it seemed like I just couldn't overcome it. Then it hit me as I read these verses in 1 Peter 5:8-10 that I wasn't trying my best to overcome this temptation and kept setting myself up for failure

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
-1 Peter 5:8-10

So when Peter says, "Be sober, be vigilant." he meant it! We have to do our part to overcome temptations that come our way. God will help us if we only ask but we have to keep our eye out for those darts Satan throws at us. After Peter says to be sober and vigilant he says, "Because your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour." We must never underestimate the wiliness of the devil nor how smart he is. If we don't stay on our guard he will bring us down. We must resist him and stand fast in our faith, knowing that our brothers and sisters in Christ also face him and deal with some of the same things we do.

The comfort in all this is that although we will face temptation, God is a God of grace. And He is the one who called us to His eternal glory thru His son Jesus Christ. Peter says here, "That after we have suffered a while, He will perfect you, establish, strengthen, and settle you. What wonderful, comforting, thoughts!

So as you continue on your daily walk with the Lord, remember that facing temptation is a part of the Christian walk and how you handle it will greatly impact your walk with Him. So as you go thru the coming days and weeks, remember to do all you do for the honour and glory of God and stand strong in your faith, no matter what comes your way! He will pull you through!!
