Applications from a Creek

I was at the cabin this weekend with my youth group and a few friends and I went for a walk. While on our walk, we came across a creek and talked about how it is beautiful. The question was asked, "Why does a brook sing?" and I was thinking that its because of the rocks. My friend said, "The rocks that cause the creek to sing are like the problems and troubles that arise in our life. We can sing even though we are dealing with the trouble in front of us because we have Christ in our life and if we give our problems to Him, then we don't have to worry! :) Also singing can help lift our spirits as well as encourage those around us. Another thing that was said was that as the creek runs along on top of the rocks, it smooths the rocks. That is just like us with our problems. We are smoothing the road for those coming along behind us and by doing so, we can be an example by how we deal with our problems and be an encouragement to those around us that may be dealing with the same thing. Even if those around us aren't dealing with the same thing, they can be encouraged by our faith and by our reliance on God. So my challenge to you is, how are you dealing with the rocks in your life? Are you allowing them to be a stumbling block and trying to handle it on your own or are you handing it to God and singing your way through the trial? May you continue to lean on God as you face the week ahead.

Highest Place

I have been thinking a lot lately about keeping Christ in the highest place in our life. The chorus I am in, is singing the song Highest Place, among other songs of thankfulness to Christ. For me it can be a struggle to keep Christ in the highest place and rely fully on him no matter what I am going thru. It is so easy for me to put self on the throne of my life, instead of Christ. Then I don't spend as much time digging into God's Word and things don't go smoothly. Not saying that we won't have troubles when leaning on Christ, but by leaning on Him, we take our problems to Him and we have a peace that we just won't have when we take things into our own hands.

In order for us to put Christ first, we can't just spend time with him, once a week at church, or only for a few minutes in our devotional. It has to be a constant, all day thing. We can't just stick Christ into one compartment of our lives. He has to be there in every aspect of what we do. Christ's life and God's Word should be the guide by which we live our life. By putting Christ first, it gives us peace about decisions we have to make, and also helps us for when we are going thru some trial. Although it can be a struggle to keep Christ first, it is well worth the effort it takes ;) May God bless you as continue on your walk with Him and keep Him first in your life.

Mother's Day and Honour

Mother's Day. The one day of the year that is set aside to remember our mothers. They are the ones who gave birth to us, although in some cases, mothers are those who raised us or were a big influence in our lives. I am thankful for the mother God has given to me, that she is a Godly mother, and has set a Godly example for me to follow. I wouldn't be who I am or where I am if she hadn't prayed for me or not have set the example she did. So are you thankful for your mother? I know I am! On Sunday I was thinking about some of the ways that we can show our mothers that we are thankful for them.

One of the most important ways we can show our mothers that we are thankful for them is to honor them. The Bible says that we are to honor our father and mother.
"Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth." -Ephesians 6:2-3
I know is some cases it might not be easy to honour your mother (and father) but it is what God commands us to do. For me it is harder to honour my father than my mother but the principle applies to both parents. I prayed about honouring my father and God helped me to honour him even though it wasn't easy. There still are times that I still struggle with honouring my parents but I just need to ask God for help to honour them and he gives me the patience and will to do so.

I believe if we honour our parents it will make things easier for us as children as well as making our parents jobs easier. And honouring ones parents doesn't just apply to when we live under their roof. It also applies to us once we move away from home or get married.

There are other ways we can show our thanks but I think honouring them and obeying them are very big ways of showing them our thanks for them. They also will mean so much to your mother! Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!
